Fluid Film Rust Proofing

How Does Fluid Film Rust Proofing Work?

Fluid Film uses a lanolin-based formula to penetrate exposed metal and create a barrier against moisture and oxygen. Unlike coatings that dry and harden, Fluid Film remains soft and pliable. This allows the product to migrate into seams and other difficult-to-reach areas while maintaining its protective film.

Fluid Film can be applied to metal that hasn’t started to rust as a preventive treatment or over existing surface rust to help inhibit further corrosion. It doesn’t remove existing rust or restore metal that has already deteriorated.

Which Parts of Your Vehicle Are Most Vulnerable to Corrosion?

Your vehicle’s underbody and wheel wells are particularly vulnerable to rust because they’re regularly exposed to water, mud, road salt, and other debris. Seams and joints between metal components can also trap moisture after surrounding surfaces have dried.

Fluid Film can be applied to suitable exposed metal, accessible seams, wheel wells, and other vulnerable areas. Treating these surfaces creates a protective barrier in places that experience significant road exposure and may be difficult to protect through routine washing alone.

How Does OCD Auto Care Apply Fluid Film Rust Proofing?

OCD Auto Care combines Fluid Film training with hands-on vehicle care experience to apply rust protection to vulnerable areas of your vehicle. We treat suitable exposed metal and accessible seams, focusing on areas subject to moisture, road spray, and de-icing salts.

Before application, we account for existing rust and underbody coatings that could affect the treatment. Fluid Film can soften some existing undercoatings, so compatibility needs to be considered before the product is applied.

Our service doesn’t end with the initial application. We offer maintenance programs for ongoing rust protection, along with follow-up phone calls if you have questions about the treatment or future reapplication.

How Often Should Fluid Film Be Reapplied?

Fluid Film automotive undercoating can provide protection for up to a year, making annual reapplication a useful starting point for vehicle maintenance. How long the coating remains in place depends on the conditions your vehicle encounters and the wear on treated areas.

Pressure washing the underbody can reduce or remove Fluid Film, so coverage may need attention afterward. Periodic checks can identify areas that need replenishing and help you maintain protection through seasons of heavy road salt exposure.
